How did the two of you meet?
We met in high school. He was a senior and I was a junior. We had been together for 11 years before we got married.
What happened the day he proposed? How did he do it?
We went blueberry picking at North Star Orchards in Westmoreland. It was one of our favorite places to go together. Whether it was apple picking and getting pumpkins in the fall, to getting veggies in the summer for our garden, we have always loved going there. It was a July afternoon and we were in the blueberry patch just getting ready to head out when he asked me to come over next to him to “see something.” The only thought running through my mind was he had found a snake and wanted to scare me. When I walked over to him, he took out the ring box and I immediately started crying. He told me he loved me and asked me to spend the rest of my life with him. I said yes over and over. It was a day I’ll never forget!
What were the main influences behind the style of your wedding, it’s location and your venue choice for your big day?
We wanted something with a modern feel that had a nice open space. We loved the idea of an outdoor ceremony that could be at the same place as the reception. It was very close to home which was a must, so all of our family and friends could make it. They had hotel rooms available for our guests, which made it very convenient. The outdoor terrace was incredible for our ceremony and cocktail hour. The ballroom was beautiful, with high ceilings and tons of room. It fit our taste perfectly!
How did you approach wedding planning? did you use any computer systems, apps or social media?
I was my own wedding planner, so I had a lot on my plate. I used Wedding Wire
and Facebook to get ideas for vendors. I went to bridal shows as well. Pinterest became my life for wedding ideas! It was such a good resource. I made a wedding binder to keep myself organized and made up a timeline and checklist to keep me on track.
What made you decide to hire a videographer?
I had seen quite a few wedding videos on social media and thought that it was a must have for our special day. I can’t wait to be able to look back on our day and relive those moments. It goes by way too fast, so to have a video to capture it all and be able to watch over and over again is irreplaceable.
Did you have any surprises for each other, or for your guests on your wedding day?
We made homemade blueberry jam favors for our guests to commemorate our engagement. The blueberries we used for the jam were picked at the same place he proposed.
What would your top tips be for somebody planning their wedding?
Try not to stress too much! There are so many details, and once you get one thing checked off, another task seems to pop up. Don’t let it consume you. Take it one step at a time and make a checklist! Keeping myself organized with a binder was also a huge help in the process. Once the wedding is over, a part of you will really miss all of the planning craziness!
What were your favorite parts of your wedding day (or perhaps most memorable)?
That is such a hard question, since I loved every minute! I would have to say the first look we had at our house was something I’ll never forget. It was such a special time for us to have together before the ceremony.
I will also never forget the feeling of walking down the aisle. The music, walking with my Dad, seeing all of the guests and my handsome groom at the end was so overwhelming and special.
Any advice for brides currently in the planning process?
Even though it is one of the most stressful things you’ll ever do, it is so rewarding in the end when it all come together! Try to enjoy every minute because it goes by so fast!
Wedding ceremony/reception venue – Vernon Downs provided the space for our ceremony on their terrace and reception in their ballroom. They hosted the cocktail hour with hors d’oeuvres stations and open bar. Chelsea was our coordinator. She told us where to be and when. She was great! The also setup our whole reception space, complete with tables, chairs, color coordinated linens, dinnerware and a huge dinner buffet. We didn’t have to do a thing! They also provided a complimentary honeymoon suite for us. It was perfect!

Photographer – Bethany Joy Photography. Her and her husband, Pete, were with us the whole day. The came to our house early in the morning for “getting ready” photos, captured our “first look”, and took many family and bridal party portraits. They took beautiful pictures during the ceremony and reception. They were so much fun and did an amazing job.
Videographer – You were so great to work with! Probably the most easy going person I have ever met. You have such a talent and I’m so glad you were able to capture our special day, Our video will probably be my favorite memento! Thank you so much!
