Natasha & Ryan
July 2nd, 2016
How did the two of you meet?
We met in the operating room! We were both assigned to assist in the same surgery. Ryan says the only reason I agreed to go out with him is because he was wearing a mask that covered most of his face 🙂
What happened the day he proposed? How did he do it?
We were on a family vacation in Hawaii. He pretended that his mother wanted to take a big group family picture and we had to scout out the spot. I thought his choice of spots was a bit secluded and hard to access for the whole family! When I turned around, he was on his knee and everyone was taking pictures of just us! I was shocked.
What were the main influences behind the style of your wedding, it’s location and your venue choice for your big day?
We wanted something that was both elegant but romantic. We also had some very specific ideas for food and drinks and activities that were inspired by our lives and travels that we wanted to have the freedom to incorporate in the way that we wanted.
How did you approach wedding planning? did you use any computer systems, apps or social media?
We hired a planner! We are both new to the area and didn’t know anyone! I also did a lot of research online both through social media, wedding websites, etc
What made you decide to hire a videographer?
We had some family and friends that we knew wouldn’t be able to make the trip to Syracuse and we wanted them to get a real feel for the day. We also really would like to make a tradition of watching the video on our anniversary to remind us of the day and our promises to each other.
Did you have any surprises for each other, or for your guests on your wedding day?
We bought each other gifts and had cards. We sort of knew what the gifts were in advance, but I had secretly had his watch engraved beforehand.
What would your top tips be for somebody planning their wedding?
I can’t say enough about how helpful our wedding coordinator was (Megan at MLH events). The day was flawless thanks to her and her team. Leading up to it, the planning can be a stressful time but try not to get too caught up in the little details! It seems like everyone will notice all those things but really, people mostly remember feeling like you were thoughtful to their needs and hat they had a fun time!
What were your favorite parts of your wedding day (or perhaps most memorable)?
Our ceremony was beautiful, peaceful and meaningful. The cotton candy was really fun and the band was awesome! We also loved setting off wish lanterns with all of our family and friends – watching everyone’s face light up as their wishes took flight was so moving!
Any advice for brides currently in the planning process?
Know what you are good at and what you need help with and don’t be afraid to ask for it!
